4 Ways to Help Your Car Last Longer

4 Ways to Help Your Car Last Longer

Taking care of your car is similar to keeping a home clean. For example, vacuuming, dusting, and scrubbing need to be done to keep a tidy environment and making your furniture and floors last longer. Your car needs love, too. A car that is used daily averages out many hours a week on the road. Take care of your car before those extra miles take a negative toll on your source of transportation. Here are 5 ways to keep an updated vehicle.

Wash and Detail

Keeping a car clean is easy. As a matter of fact, giving a car a quick drive-thru wash and dust can go a long way. But, take the time once in a while to properly wash and detail your car. Don’t cheap out on the least expensive wash. Choose one that provides waxing and tire protectant. These will not only make your car look better, it will also help make your paint and rims look nicer, longer.

Light Check

Is the “Check Engine” light on? Your car is most likely due for maintenance. Instead of just hoping the light goes off, take it to a mechanic that can diagnose the problem. Not catching problems early can lead to worse, more expensive problems down the road.

Oil Change

All cars use oil. The oil needs to be changed, as well as the oil filter in your car. Follow your car’s maintenance schedule to have this waste oil transfer done. This is one of the important liquids to keep your car driving strong. Old oil can allow parts in your engine to wear out prematurely. And, if your car gets too low on oil, the whole engine could be destroyed.

Update Tires

Tires are the shoes of every car! It’s important to ensure your vehicle has sturdy tires. with good tread so that they can grip the road properly and don’t blow out while driving down the road.

Not all tires age the same. Some tires will last longer than the others even though the same road is travelled. A good rule of thumb is to place a penny into the tire tread with Lincoln’s head pointing downwards. If Lincoln’s head is almost completely visible, then it’s time for new tires. You can learn more about when to get new tires, here. Also, don’t forget to update the spare tire as needed.
